Nic Kaelin is a career educator who is dedicated to empowering young folks in becoming caring and engaged members of their communities, so that they are equipped to empower others. Nic was raised just north of The Bronx, and moved to the Bay Area in 2003. He has a B.S. in Social Studies Education from New York University and over 20 years in education and youth development. Before coming to Latitude, Nic spent the previous 15 years as a 7th grade humanities teacher at The Berkeley School in Berkeley, an early adolescent classroom teacher at Montessori Family School in El Cerrito, and a program manager and education director at Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco. Nic’s partner is also a career educator who has been a teacher and administrator at Oakland Tech for the last 15 years. They have two children who attend Oakland Public Schools. Nic has been active as an advocate for housing rights as a member and volunteer in multiple Oakland based community organizations.
