Carlos Cabana joined Latitude in 2021, eager to be part of a school that valued innovation on behalf of Oakland students. Before Latitude, Carlos taught for eight years at Life Academy in Oakland Unified, where he helped found the middle school. He started his career at San Lorenzo High, where he and his colleagues created the math department celebrated by Stanford professor Jo Boaler. Those experiences taught him the power of loving and trusting students, and he is deeply grateful that he gets to continue doing that work at Latitude.
Carlos was born in Argentina but came to the US when he was 3 years old. His family moved often, so he attended elementary school in New Jersey, middle school in Brazil, and high school in Minnesota before coming to California to attend UC Berkeley. In his free time Carlos loves to cook for friends, garden, read, and travel.
